Green Tara

Green Tara is the foremost of the twenty-one Taras. Most Green Taras are depicted as maiden-like, with exquisite beauty. Her entire body is like emerald, radiating vibrant greenness.

"Green" symbolizes life and hope, representing the nourishing energy of endless growth in all things. It embodies the potential for new beginnings, eliminating all depression and despair; it also represents wealth and career success.

"Tara" signifies liberation and salvation. It means to liberate oneself and then liberate others, to help oneself achieve and then help others achieve. It embodies the principle of helping oneself by helping others, and the essence of spreading the Dharma to benefit all sentient beings.

"Mother" signifies virtuous conduct. It expresses the all-encompassing heart of the greater world through the maternal virtue of profound kindness and the nature of the primordial source.

She sits upon a white lotus throne, wearing a crown. Her entire body is green, with one head and two arms, displaying a compassionate countenance. She is adorned in celestial garments, draped with various jewels and ornaments. In her left hand, she holds a blooming Utpala flower (blue lotus). Upon this flower are two more lotuses—one unopened and one half-opened—both signifying the vow to rely on the Buddha's teachings equally throughout the past, present, and future three periods.

Green Tara primarily has the merit of protecting women and children. She can bless women with intelligence, beauty, and gentleness, and shelter children, ensuring their safety, health, and successful development. Therefore, Green Tara is most suitable for women. By persistently chanting Green Tara's heart mantra, you will find yourself becoming more beautiful and your mood increasingly joyful.
